The SDAT Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium (also known as the Jawaharlal Nehru Indoor Stadium) in Chennai is an important part of Tamil Nadu’s sports culture. Managed by the Sports Development Authority of Tamil Nadu (SDAT), it was built to promote indoor sports in the state and provide excellent facilities for athletes.
The SDAT Stadium is known for its modern design and excellent facilities. It seats around 8,000 spectators and is fully air-conditioned, ensuring comfort for both players and fans. The venue is wheelchair-accessible and well-maintained, with clean restrooms and a hygienic environment.
As the name suggests, the SDAT Stadium is a multi-purpose venue, offering facilities for various indoor sports—not just one. It includes a badminton court used for state and national-level tournaments, a table tennis hall suitable for both competitions and training, and a basketball court that hosts everything from local leagues to major events. There’s also a volleyball court fully equipped for indoor matches, and a dedicated kabaddi arena, specially designed to support the growing popularity of professional kabaddi.
The SDAT Multi-Purpose Indoor Stadium has hosted several PKL matches and is set to host the Chennai leg of Season 12 from 29 September to 12 October 2025. Tamil Thalaivas will play their home games here. The stadium also supports the growth of other sports in Tamil Nadu.
